MANAGED PROPERTY SECURITY

Lost or Unreturned Tenant Keys

When property keys are lost or not returned, the issue is key control: you may no longer know who can access the property. The appropriate solution depends on the locks fitted and whether the existing mechanisms remain in good condition.

Possible solutions

Change only the relevant cylinder

Many doors allow a new cylinder and keys to be fitted while retaining a correctly functioning mechanism.

Replace the complete lock where necessary

Older, damaged or unreliable hardware may justify a more extensive replacement.

Review several access points

If the missing keys operate multiple external doors or communal/private access arrangements, tell us so the situation can be assessed as a whole.

Occupied property or end of tenancy?

Tell us whether the property is vacant, occupied or between tenancies and who is authorised to approve the work. We can coordinate practical access details with the supplied contact where appropriate.

What we need from you

Send the property postcode, photographs of the relevant locks, the access contact and any approval or invoicing instructions.

Do all the locks need changing?

Usually the decision should be made door by door. If a missing key only operates one lock, other unrelated locks may not need attention. Where one key operates several relevant doors, or there is uncertainty about the key system, tell us so we can assess the access arrangement properly and avoid leaving an overlooked entry point.

What if the existing lock is already worn?

If we find that a lock or mechanism is unreliable as well as the keys being unaccounted for, we can explain the difference between restoring key control and repairing the underlying hardware. Combining the work at the same visit may be more practical than fitting a new cylinder to a mechanism that is already close to failure.

Keys Not Returned?

We can help restore control over access without unnecessary replacement.
