DOOR ALIGNMENT

Door Needs Lifting, Pushing or Pulling to Lock

If you have to lift the door, pull it towards you or push it firmly before the key turns, the locking points may no longer be lining up correctly with the frame. This is commonly an alignment issue and does not automatically mean you need a new multipoint lock.

Possible solutions

Door realignment

We assess how the door sits in the frame and how each locking point engages. Adjustment may restore smooth locking where the mechanism itself remains serviceable.

Keep adjustment

The keeps in the frame may need appropriate adjustment where the door and locking points are otherwise operating correctly.

Mechanism repair

If the mechanism has already been damaged through prolonged strain, repair or replacement may also be required.

Why early repair matters

Repeatedly forcing the handle can put unnecessary load on the gearbox and other components. Addressing alignment early can help prevent a complete failure.

How we diagnose it

We compare operation with the door open and closed, check the hinges and position of the door, and inspect where the hooks, rollers or bolts meet the frame.

Does the whole lock need replacing?

Not necessarily. If the multipoint mechanism works smoothly when the door is open, that can indicate that the mechanism itself is still serviceable and the problem is how the door meets the frame. Where appropriate, correcting the alignment may be enough. If prolonged strain has damaged the gearbox or another component, we will show you what has failed before recommending replacement.

What should I do until it is checked?

Avoid using excessive force on the handle or key. If the door can still be secured normally with gentle operation, arrange an assessment before the problem worsens. If it no longer secures at all, tell us when you call so we know the property requires urgent attention.
