Moved Into a New Home? Lock Change Options
Moving home is a sensible time to review who may still have keys and whether the locks fitted to your doors are suitable, reliable and secure. You do not necessarily need to replace every complete lock: in many cases the key-operated cylinder or another replaceable component can be changed while retaining a sound locking mechanism.
What are your options?
Change the cylinder only
On many uPVC, composite and some other doors, changing the cylinder provides a new set of keys without replacing a correctly working multipoint mechanism. We check the cylinder size and existing security before recommending a replacement.
Replace the complete lock
If the existing lock is worn, damaged, obsolete or unsuitable, replacing more of the locking system may make better sense. We explain why before replacing additional components.
Upgrade the security
A house move is also an opportunity to review older locks and discuss suitable higher-security or British Standard options for the particular door.
Keep good locks that do not need changing
We do not recommend replacing sound hardware simply for the sake of it. The aim is to regain key control and address genuine security or reliability concerns.
What we check before changing anything
We look at the type and condition of the door, the lock already fitted, how smoothly it operates, whether there are alignment problems and which component controls the keys. This helps avoid unnecessary replacement and ensures any new part is correctly sized and installed.
Multiple doors and keyed options
If several locks need attention, tell us before attendance. Depending on the hardware and your requirements, we can discuss practical key arrangements and security options rather than treating each door in isolation.
